I would say, "I do not know the specifics of the case, so I want to give Mr. Johnson respect by not discussing it." Discussing a matter such as this with students or parents would be unprofessional.

That is a situation in which it becomes public knowledge. Newspapers, social media and word of mouth spreads news like this quickly. In my opinion, it is not our place, as coworkers, to tell other's business. Yes, that teacher made a mistake. We are all human, we all make mistakes. It is not our place to chew the fat with anyone, much less our students about it. With that being said, I would tell me students that we are at school, not at the gossip mill. Out of respect for my coworker, I will not discuss her personal life. We need to focus on school, not what goes on out of school. It is not our place to pass judgement or to discuss it period. You could always say you don't know and that even if you did you would not discuss it with them.

For other teachers I would say, "Let them dealing thier own situation while we deal with our's." For parents I would tell them, that unless the school or the disctrict have a statemnt i have nothig to say on the matter." As for studnets it is much like that of the teacher response in that, "We dont need to part of thier business." This are my own thoughts but the idea is that let that teacher deal with they're problems and its not our place to interfear and we all need to professional and civil about it.

This is a situation that should not be discussed for any reason. If a parent of student ask you something in regards to this teachers arrest then you should refer them to the administration for comment. I would just explain that you do not have any details and con not confirm any allegations made against the former teacher.

This situation has nothing to do with you or the students so it does not need to be discussed. Not only that, but DUI's are not an appropriate topic to be discussing during school time. I would simply redirect the students back to the task at hand and keep on teaching.

Definitely do not add to the gossip or attempt to answer anything even if you know what is exactly going on. People can easily misunderstand and twist your words and you could get in trouble. If they really want to know then tell them to talk to the principal or someone who has the authority to give that information away. Let them know you are not allowed and must remain professional.

As a previous coworker i would approach the situation as yes you have heard that the teacher was arrested but you know nothing more than that. And i would leave it at that as to not get into any drama that might occur from the conversation.

I would say I have no information and I would rather not speak on a topic I do not know nothing about. I would be honest and tell the person I would rather talk about something else because it I not my life to speak negatively about.

I would say you make no comments on the situation! Redirect the conversation or say it is not your place to make a comment about a fellow teacher.

I would not deny anything or push it aside i think you should come up with a statement that is unbiased and is to the point so that you can get back to teaching and hopefully have your students focused on the lesson.

I've been in a situation like this when I was in school. However, when we, as students, asked anything about it, we were turned away and it was not spoken about. I think children are curious by nature, however, some things shouldn't be discussed with children, or at school

I would respond something along the lines of how you do not know the entirety of the situation and it is not appropriate to speak about in the classroom. If anyone has any private questions, they may set up a meeting with the principal if they find it directly affects them or their students learning, not if it is just to know the gossip though.

For the other teachers I would say "I wouldn't want you discussing me so I am not discussing her." For the parents I would say "I am not at liberty to discuss this with parents." For the students I would say "That isn't our business to talk about."

I agree with everyone's posts and dismissing any gossip related to this issue. However, maybe the school or the school board can help this teacher to pay a company to erase her mugshot online so parents and students can not easily access this information or help the teacher to expunge this off her record. Everyone makes mistakes and that is how people learn.

I think that many school policies reflect that these types of questions are for administration to answer. While this information is also public record it is hard to keep from being found. My response would be yes I am aware and no I do not have any information on the event that I could share. I was not there and I did not talk to anyone who knows any information. It happened and it involved so and so but that is all the information I know.
