Tone of Voice

I have a co-worker that frequently uses a harsh tone when speaking with the students. Some of the students do not respond to this type of redirection. See is doing it frequently and parents and other teachers are starting to complain and she is getting a reputation for being "The Mean Teacher". Is this something I should address?

I definitely think it is something that should be brought up. That teacher may not even be aware of what they are doing, so it is best to speak with them directly. If you do not have a good relationship with the person, the conversation could be conducted more formally or even have someone who knows them well be present during the conversation and have them offer suggestions.

I think this is a good idea!

If the teacher involved in this issue is someone that trusts you and you have a relationship with, then I see no harm in approaching them about the situation. If not, then I would let someone else approach them about the issue. Being able to effectively collaborate with other teachers is essential, so you do not want to do or say anything that will negatively effect their relationship with you. Also, since other teachers and parents have noticed this teachers attitude then I'm sure it will reach administration soon.

If there is an issue with her tone of voice then yes, bring it to her attention. Be professional about it. Do it face to face and be direct but not degrading. If you are not comfortable with it have someone that is do it. But make sure it is a one-on-one discussion because you do not want the teacher to feel attacked or surrounded.

You could speak with your co-worker if you have a good working relationship. If you feel that it is adversely affecting the students you can address it with the teacher's supervisor or administration.

I agree that if you have a relationship with the teacher it could help her if you talked to her about the issue. However, if you don't have a relationship you should stay uninvolved directly unless you see the issue occurring yourself. Make sure that administration is aware of the issue, as it is their responsibility to address the teacher.

You could address your coworker by simply stating what other are saying and how they are being portrayed. Using empathy is a good strategy so they do not feel as if they are being attacked. I know some people avoid confrontation but if her job is on the line and students are feeling uncomfortable, it is time to have a talk.

I definitely think that it should be mentioned. If you are friends then this is something that can be handled in a way that isn't so serious and accusatory. No one wants to be seen as that "mean teacher" and she may not even realize she is doing it. You bringing it up and just mentioning it may be an easy fix.

Maybe she is unaware that she is being too harsh. I would find a way to kindly bring it up to her.

I would let her know the nicest way possible that her tone of voice is having a negative effect on students an their parents. She has to come up with better ways to handle the students.

I think it is something you should address, yes, but not directly to the teacher. I would go to someone higher up and inform them of the situation, in hopes that it will get resolved. I would also ask to be named anonymous in order to not cause any drama.

I would try talking to the teacher first to let them know how their tone is coming off, since they may not even notice it themselves.

I would be sure to use a soft tone of voice around her. She may pick up on the fact that the students respond better the soft voice. If that does not work I would kindly bring it up to her.
