Dress Code

Recently, my school has implemented a new dress code policy. If a teacher is violating dress code, they will be notified through an note from administration. However, some of the people who are issuing these violations are also violating dress code. How should this be addressed?

If you feel that the person issuing the violations are also violating the dress code you can notify their supervisor. You should use the chain of command to address the issue.

I wouldn't cause a huge scene, this won't be good for anyone. I think the best course of action would be to talk to a supervisor or someone above that certain administrator. If they want to be enforcing the rules then they should also be following them.

At the implementation of the new dress code, it should be clear to all that the dress code is for everyone in the building, including administrators. A school is a professional setting and everyone who works there should dress accordingly. If administrators want teachers to adhere to the dress code, then they should set example of how to dress properly.

I think if someone is trying to enforce the rules then he/she should be the example. If she/he is demanding something from the staff that she manages then she should be the perfect example of what it is expected. I would talk to the principal about it. It is a complicated situation because you don't want to cause a big drama.

For teachers, a dress code should be very simple. I even believe for students as well. It should be simple and appropriate and not make anyone feel uncomfortable

Go through your chain of command, be it your headteacher or lead teacher to let them know that there are people being dress coded but the people who are are dress coding the teachers are out of dress code as well, and that how are we supposed to be a unified front if only some are following the rules

This is not right at all, the best way to handle this issue is to have those issuing violations checked as well. They are expected to be the role models for those they are routinely examining. It does not help for them to be violators as well.

You serious? Dress codes for teachers should be pants, cool shirt and no flip flops. This administration has become a monarch so it is time for a revolution (kidding). We have a teacher that wears cotton pants, tie-dye shirt and converse(bright orange). The kids love him. I think it would be time for me to move on to another school. Casual, conservative and comfortable.

As a lot of these comments have said I would notify a supervisor or higher up so they can address this. It of course is not right if this is happening. They should be held to the same standards.

I believe that a teacher dress code violation should only be handled if the teacher received multiple violations from multiple teachers. Also, in order to ensure that another teacher is also in dress code, the assistant principle should check to see if the teacher who reported it is in proper attire.

I dont think that it should be a multiple offence. Wether they do it once, twice or consistantly, it is still hypocritical. You make a conscience decision every morning about the clothing that you put on.

I think if you wanted to avoid stirring up some animosity you could write a leave an anonymous note in their mailbox. Don't be abrupt about it, just write it as if you were telling them because they didn't even notice that they were breaking their own rules.

I would possibly bring it up with the teacher making the offense. Then if nothing changes seek speaking with the assistant principal of your school. If you do not feel comfortable doing so then just simply wait it out and they will eventually be addressed by someone if they keep repeating the offense.

I do not think this is the best solution. Personally, I would take it to the supervisor.

I would speak with the people directly and quietly inform them what they are doing. It would do no good to cause a scene and make a big fuss.

The teachers should have to follow the dress code, but if you are just a teacher yourself it shouldn't be any of your business if another person is not in dress code or not. If you are really wanting to get the person in trouble you could go to the administration and let them know.

I totally agree with your statement saying that fellow teachers should not feel responsible to "report" a colleague because of improper dress code. Administrators should make sure there is proper dress code carried out throughout the building.
