Case
What is your knowledge of and experience with standards-based education?

If you are asked this question in a job interview for a teaching position: What are some things you should avoid when responding to this question? What might be some important points to stress that would get the interviewer's attention? How would you respond to this question?

Solution #1
Every part of education begins with standards. Before you can map out instruction, create assessment, and create lessons, you must first be able to understand and unpack each standard. Once you have an understanding of the standards then you may begin creating what is needed to educate the students.

I agree. You need to know the standards in order to build lessons.

Solution #2
Avoid addressing what you do not know about the standards. Part of the Georgia Teacher Keys Effectiveness System measures professional knowledge. As others have stated, unpack each standard. It would be important to stress your background and professional training as it relates to the standards you are to be teaching. You can attract the interviewer's attention by providing specific examples of how you ensure that each lesson, assignment, and assessment contributes to addressing state and national standards. This is an opportunity to talk about progress monitoring and using student achievement data to drive instructional practices and support strategies.

Excell ent. During our teacher education we've learned about standards in almost every class. Why not highlight that.

Solution #3
If are certainly not familiar with the standards I would avoid trying to make something up. I would be prepared and research especially if the you know the question may come about. I would also create mini lesson and take them with me and show the interviewer how you applied it.
