Since the student is frequently absent. I would have an absent folder loaded with the handouts and assignments that the student has missed. I would provide the student with a peer-assistant. This student could help teach the information to the student if they are struggling to understand the information and you are unavailable to teach the child. You could also offer to meet with the child before/after class to help teach them the information that they are missing.

I would first contact the parent/guardian to see if someone was able to pick up the classwork and homework that the child missed so they can be working on it before they come back. Another option would be to ask the parent or guardian if they could let the school know in advance when the student will be out to prepare the work in advance.

It might be possible to post some of the assignments online for the student to work on when they are missing class.

I think an important factor in the equation is why the student is gone so often? Is it a medical issue? Does the student simply not show up on their own (if old enough to not come to class) / parents don't bring them (if young enough for the need to rely on them)? If this is the case, I believe a sit down with the parents is necessary. If there is an appropriate reason for the absences, I would provide large chunks of material to the student at once throughout the year, in anticipation of absences. If the student is in class, then the assignments can be completed on schedule with their classmates, but this way if the student isn't able to be present, they still have the material they need to keep up.

First it is important to find out why they are absent often. IF you know why then it makes if easy to plan around. It is only catch up because you don't have all the necessary information to work with. Talking to parents/guardians and the student and friends gets a lot of things in the open. Then once you understand why they are absent it can then be turned into not playing catch up but just sending out or responding to their works and needs.

If you know the days that the student will be absent, try to have the work and papers prepared to give to them on the day that they are there. This will allow the student to have the work and to complete it in a timely manner. If you do not know when they will be absent, try to contact the parents and see if you and the parents can have a meeting to get a system in place to help the student catch up and stay caught up.

Keep a folder in a designated area and inside of it put your lesson plans and makeup work with the date it was completed on it. Make sure students check this folder when they return to class.

Use recess as a good time to catch up with missing work. This will ensure the student get all of his work done so that they can play with other when the time is right

I would suggest making a folder for this student in the classroom so when he or she comes in they can look at the folder and see all the work that they've missed, and they need to complete it all to catch up. These students are losing out on information they need to know.

I would recommend them spend time after school with a tutor to help them catch-up. It's their responsibility for being out so often. They should be catching up at home as well. It would be great to have a way to get their work to them when they are out or before the days they will be absent, that way they can go over it while they are out.

Make a take home folder of sublimentary work. Send home work with a neighbor student with work and maybe set up online schooling.

I would keep all the missing assignments documented for that student. Having a file or folder can help you and the student reach whatever she is missing and allows her to see how much she or he needs to get done

I would try to send as much work home as you can when student is absent. Maybe there is a sibling of the student who goes to the school?
