I would recommend getting baseline data on Eddie's disruptive behavior so you have something concrete to present to his parents. After gathering the data, I would contact his parents and start the conversation by stating Eddie's positive attributes; letting Eddie's parents know that you acknowledge and appreciate the good things about him, will help you ease into the conservation about his problem behavior. Next, let his parents know that you want to implement a behavior change program that will specifically address his disruptive behavior. Let the parents know the program will focus on providing Eddie with positive feedback when he stays on task while in class.

Going into any conference, I would definitely begin the conference by listing positive traits of the student. I will also be sure to come up with a good amount of baseline data of the behaviors in the classroom. I will also be sure to ask the student's other teachers to see if the behavior is occurring in other classrooms, and not just my own. I will explain that Eddie is not making the best choices in the classroom, and I will show the parents his data chart. I will explain the different classroom and school policies to make sure that the parents are aware of what has taken place in the classroom. I will let them give me feedback as to what they think about the entire situation. I will hear them out and let them say everything they need to say. It is important to have parental support.

I would make sure that I call the parents right away. When I speak with them on the phone I would let them know what he is doing and that I am concerned. I would also tell them though that I want to meet with them to talk about what can be changed. When they come to meet with me I would show them his scores and have written down all of the disruptions he has caused in class. I would voice my concern for him and his learning path. I would ask what I could do to help them and how I can better help their son. I would also like to talk to the student. Maybe there is something going on at home that I do not know about. I would let this student know that I am disappointed and I want to see him do better.

I always document each time Eddie disrupts the class, and I have also snapped pictures and videos of children to show their parents because some parents take the side of their child if evidence isn't shown. I will always begin with something positive that Eddie does and then ask parents for their input in what can be done at home to support what it is Eddie is supposed to be doing in class whether it's taking something away from him or rewarding him when he does well. Give parents missing assignments to ensure that they get done at home and turned in as soon as they are completed.
