When you go to teach in her classroom, I would establish a set of expectations with the students. Establish your own flow of how you want the school day to go. I understand that if there is already a routine in place, the students will be better off sticking to that routine. But implementing behavioral expectations is understandable since you are a different teacher. The changes don't need to be drastic, but they can alter the atmosphere of the room slightly. Such as, "If I am talking, you are silent." You won't be talking the entire day, and students will have plenty of time to speak with their peers. I am not sure of the rest of the conditions of your classroom, but this is how I would approach it if possible.

Once the students get to know you and your teaching style, their behavior might change. However, you can take time to introduce yourself to the students and let them know your rules and expectations when you are teaching them. This way the students know how they should be acting and what rules they are following when it is your turn to teach. You could also work with your CT to make some adjustments to the classroom management plan to benefit both of you, if you are comfortable with that.

If I was in this situation I wouldn't agree with how my CT handles that situation but I would also feel it isn't my place to question his or hers classroom management. So my tip to you is to make notes of all the things you do and don't like as well as always make notes of what you could do and what you wouldn't do in your future classroom.

I would make a comment to your CT and just let them know that you find it distracting and ask them to tell you how it started. There may be a reason for it that you are unaware of. Since you are going to have to teach in her classroom, I would make notes of the experience and hope that your conversation with your CT enlightened you for the reason why. Let her know that it makes you feel like you will not achieve what you are looking to achieve. They are there to assist you in part of your learning process.

I would explain to them that there is a time and a place. Set yourself a tally mark on the board. There can only be three sarcastic or stories inserted to each lesson. Once the three tally marks are done, there is no more interjection. You still want them to feel included and that they can talk, but at the same time be managing your time wisely.

Give your students rules end expectations and repeat them.

Allowing time at the end of the lesson for there to be "free discussion."

Wow, I can picture this in my head nd it does not seem conducive for learning. I would ask the CT why these particular kids keep being disrupting so much. Maybe by asking, it will draw attention to the lack of leadership on the CT's part without directly saying it. I would ask what could be done to stop this from being such an issue and talk with the teacher about solutions. IN my own classroom, I would make sure to prevent this from getting so out of hand in the first place by laying ground rules more stern in the beginning.

You can set expectations for the students before you teach so they will not talk or call out. Maybe the teacher will see your example, but her classroom management will not negatively reflect on you.

Unfortunately as an intern you have little say as to how the teacher can control her class and what behaviors she will tolerate and not tolerate. She has to be the one to decide whether or not she will continue to allow this type of behavior in the classroom. You might start by setting appropriate expectations it will more than likely be difficult as the students have gotten away with this behavior a lot. Establishing boundaries and implementing them is absolutely crucial.

As far as making sure this does not happen when you become a teacher is by putting a stop at the very beginning of the year. Within the first few weeks of school just make it known to the students that you will not have any tolerance for sarcasm. If there is a student who is giving sarcasm in the classroom make sure to punish him or her to make sure the student knows it as well as the rest of the students in the class. As for the classroom you are interning with, that is a hard situation. I think it is hard to say something because it might not be your place to say anything.
