Case
Parent assist on chaperoning

Two classes are getting ready to take a big field trip together to St. Augustine this year and there is only room for 5 parent chaperones between the two classes. The parents have been informed that there names will be placed in a random generator and picked from there, but several parents are refusing to allow their students to go with out them, and have even threatened to call the district and complain. How do you handle the situation with these parents?

Solution #1
I would suggest explaining that there are only a few chaperone spots on the trip, but their child is in great hands and will be taken care of. If they do not want their child attending the field trip without them there, do not argue against their decision.

"do not argue against their decision." Great input.

Solution #2
You should talk to those parents and try to explain that their child will be safe during the field trip and that those parents going will take good care of them. If this does not work just tell them if they do not want their child to go without them to simply have the child not go.
Solution #3
I would tell adminstartion of this issue on how parents are threatening to complain to the district about not being allowed to chaperone, even after being told that chaperones are chosen at random and that you personally do not decide, and that their children will be safe regardless but it is their choice if they allow their child to attend or not. This is so that admin is aware of the problem that the parents are causing and can get behind you if needed.
Solution #4
I would talk to them and reassure them of their children's safety the best you can. Another good idea would be to have administration talk with the parents and address their concerns as well.
