I have seen many students focusing on diets (keto, paleo, etc) and their body image while trying to say they're aiming for health and athleticism. Where does this come into play in an educational classroom? Should this kind of talk be banned, or utilized?
My personal advise: Do not ever ban something if you can avoid it. What's the first thing a student does when they learn something is banned? They test that rule. You could utilize this opportunity to your advantage depending on the scenario. If you cannot take advantage of it, though, try to find something else for the group to talk about.
This is the course of action I would take if I had to, just make sure it's not disrupting class time and that everyone is eating and keeping down what they eat. We don't need those kinds of "diets".
You are absolutely right when you say there are worse things they could be talking about.
I 100% agree with this posting and believe you should try to stay away from banning something
I don't think it should be banned. It is great that youth are more health conscious because exercise and a healthy diet can prevent some diseases. Athletics are great to build teamwork skills and get in shape. As long as a student is not disrupting the class or missing instruction because of sports, it is fine to talk about health and athletics in the classroom.
I think this post is something i would promote your students to learn
This is very accurate.
I agree with this solution.
