This is tricky because it is their own personal devices. If the students have accommodations and have to use it during instruction, I would move their seats closest to where I stand while teaching so use can be monitored. You could also talk with their parents about putting parental controls on the devices so they can only use the notes app during school. If they don't have to have access to the during instruction, I would make them keep the iPad's face down.

I do not think that you are being too strict at all. If you can tell they are not using their I-pads just for note taking, then they are more than likely a distraction to the rest of the class. You can approach them with a certain set of rules they have to follow if they want to take notes on their I-Pads. You can ask them to keep their devices face down o the table, keep the volume off, and to have them sitting facing you so they can't hide anything with their back turned.

If they are clearly not using the iPads for just note taking then you have every right to stop them from using them. If all the other students can take notes with pencil and paper so can they and they need to not take advantage of the rules

I have a no cellphone policy in my class but allow one of my students translate words because they don't speak English. if they are using the IPADS for educational purposes than fine but only for that. Just make sure you are monitoring their screens but I don't think you are being too strict.

I like using an iPad for taking notes with an Apple Pencil because it's easier to carry around than a lot of notebooks and I can easily erase something if I mess up. However, as others have said, it's easy to know when a kid is using the iPad for notes or if they are just browsing. I would just monitor the situation and give them a warning and if they don't correct their behavior, but let them know that if it happens again, they will not continue to have that freedom.

I think technology can be beneficial in the classroom with strict ground rules on what would be appropriate use. You should not bend on your policies due to students not listening to them, reestablish expectations and revoke privileges.

If the Ipad is apart of their accomodations, then I suggest proximity control. If not, then follow your no-technology rule! That's fair and kids could use the break!

If they are just using them to take notes I think it should be allowed but if you have to give them warning then ask them to put it up. It follows the same rules as phones in class.

I do not believe that you are being too strict on this topic. Students, especially now, are only into their phones and the media. I would have a talk with the students and the parents about your no-technology rule. If they want to use it to take notes, there will be rules to follow, such as sitting within my eye sight, having the iPad face down on the desk to be able to see what is going on at all times. I would also see if there is a way to only use a specific app to take notes so they are only able to use that app.

If your expectation is that there are no technologies in the classroom, then telling the two students to put it away is not too strict. Students need to respect the expectations put in place. Now, if they have an accommodation where they need the Ipad to take notes, then that is one thing, but if they are using technology and not using it properly, then you need to ask them to put it away and have them not bring it to school from then on. If the issue increases, see what your administration would do in that situation, it may have to come to bringing the Ipads to the front so a parent can pick it up.

It sounds like you already arent able to enforce this policy if two students are disobeying it. Let them use the technology, but make it a privilege. If they are caught doing other things on it, they lose the privilege.

I dont have a problem with students using technology for note taking but if they are doing other things than it is a problem and I would take away that privelage if it becomes an issue.

I would have the iPad usage in class as a privilege. If students are abusing this, then they should have to switch to paper-pencil. Consider moving these students closer to the teacher's desk as well.

In todays age people are leaning more towards taking notes on an ipad rather then the traditional pen and paper. While you never know if they're actually taking notes or not its your job to build that trust with the student and make sure that their taking in the material by asking them questions or even looking over the notes to make sure their up to standard.

I personally, would move them closer to me so I can monitor them better. Setting clear rules like when notes are not being taken iPad and pen should be flat on the desk. If you know they are doing more, I would talk to them after class and let them know they aren't allowed to do other things than taking notes. If it continues, they won't be allowed to continue taking notes on their iPads.

I think these advanced tools like ipad are helpful when the students went into higher grades. But if they are in grade 1 to 6, I don't think using ipad to take notes is a good idea. You may set the rules for classroom, and you can tell students that you will have the chance to use that to take notes in the future, but for now, hand-writing is also essential which will help your study.
