Case
Put in an Uncomfortable Situation

I worked in a first-grade classroom and was put in a position where I had to make a phone call home due to the teacher being out. When I called the parent, I was able to keep the conversation as positive as possible, and everything was fine until the parent asked me about how I felt the teacher handles and teaches the class as the parent was concerned about constantly hearing that their child is severely behind academically. I was able to answer this in a way that did not come off as being biased in any way but it was quite uncomfortable. Has anyone else been through this?

Solution #1
I have not experienced this situation before, and I recommend bringing it to the attention of the school administration and may the teacher upon their return. I am hesitant about telling the teacher because of the possibility of creating more conflict between the teacher and the parent. If a similar situation arises and you need to call home, asking an admin member to be present for the conversation may be beneficial. They may be able to jump in and help you navigate the situation more comfortably.
Solution #2
The only appropriate would be telling them that you will personally relay the message to administration and hopefully they will take care of it for better or worse.
Solution #3
I have never been through this situation before but I can understand how uncomfortable it is. The fellow teacher is your coworker and you never want to be unprofessional. I would try to avoid the questions and stay as positive as possible when dealing with this situation.
