Subbing Calls for "Not Caring"

When I was a former substitute teacher, it was clear that when I walked into the room students thought to themselves "Oh we have a sub, we can do whatever we want".
How can we as teachers, set boundaries with students and let them know the importance of substitute teachers so that they are respected?

Solution #1
I do believe that it is important for educators to teach their students that everyone who comes in the classroom should be treated with respect and welcomed. Going over the expectations of how to treat others is also important and helps when it comes to having other adults like substitutes in the classroom. I would also implement a positive reinforcement like a treat once I return if the students are able to behave. Also, ensuring that students are aware that there will be a substitute the following day will also help prepare them and not just catch them in an awkward position.

I feel like most students throughout schools realize that if their teacher is not there they do not have to do any work. As being a student before in those situations, you soon come to realize that that is not the case. For subs to be respected, I feel as if at the beginning of the class, let them know that you are there to serve as their teacher for that day. Making sure that they are getting their work done. If they act out then talk to them. Being there for them if they need help on their assignments.
Solution #3
Have a sub report. The teacher should leave a seating chart or students names and photos for the sub to take names of the misbehaving students. Having a list is important because in my experience I have seen students provide fake names to subs.

Sub report is also a great idea. You can also go over it with the students the next day.

Solution #4
Depending on the grade level you can add incentives that they can earn when they have a sub. Remember to not make them too easy to earn but also not too difficult or else they could get discouraged.

I would have a discussion about the expectations then even set goals for rewards.
