Case
Student Survey

How do you feel connected to your culture? This is a question I asked my students and most answers were family oriented. How do you go about including family and culture in a classroom?

Solution #1
The classroom is where students spend the majority of their time. It should be their safe space. To make the space more comfortable, invite students to bring pictures of their families into the classroom that they can keep at their desks or post on a designated bulletin board in the classroom. In addition to that, invite families into the classroom to read multicultural books to the class and during winter, encourage families to participate in classroom parties and activities that explore cultural holidays around the world.
Solution #2
I think that family cooking is important to a lot of cultures, so having students and/or their parents bringing a dish in that means something to them (whether homemade or store-bought) could be a way for them to share a piece of their home life in the classroom.

I also agree!

Solution #3
You could always send out a survey or do an at home project where the parents can get involved with their student.
Solution #4
That is a good question to ask at the start of the year, but you also need to make sure the students are comfortable answering that question. What I mean by this is you should ask this question, but not be too disappointed if you don't get long or lengthy answers.
