Standard Tests

Every year, schools are required to give the students standard tests at the end of the year. Students dread that day coming. These standard tests are everything that they should have learned throughout the school year, supposedly. These tests from experience, do not have the materials that the students have learned. There are some things on the test that students have never seen before. How can we cover all the bases on the tests so the students can be more prepared?

Solution #1
Studying current curriculum and matching lesson plans with the curriculum can help you teach your students the information needed to pass standard tests.
Solution #2
Using curriculum guides and lesson plans provided by the county could help address these concerns. Additionally, we can also teach students skills to make an informed guess/try to answer questions.
Solution #3
Look at the curriculum and identify everything your students should know by the end of the year. Teach them the most important lessons first and end with the less important ones. Encourage them to do their best on the test and that it is ok if there are some questions they are not sure about...give them testing techniques too, like using elimination.
Solution #4
Use formative assessments throughout the year to gauge student understanding of key concepts. Adjust your teaching based on the results to address specific areas of weakness.
Solution #5
That's a very good question, and the answer could start with re-working standard or standardized testing to be what the students learned and even potentially breaking the tests down into a few smaller tests taken throughout the entire year.
