How to know if students are staying on track

Some students fall behind in school, which is completely okay. Students are allowed to be one step behind others. But how can we keep those students on track? Some may say having one on ones with them, or them getting a tutor. But sometimes, that does not help. What are some different ways we as teachers can help out those students that are falling behind?

Work that continues to have the students show mastery would be effective. Consider sources like KhanAcademy.
Solution #2
It could be useful to give them extra work, homework that is design more on refreshing ideas and concepts that you see a majority of your class is not understanding or falling behind on.
Solution #3
Making lesson plans engaging and exciting can help students focus on the task at hand. Additionally, providing options in learning or offering tutorings as you said can help the student regain focus in school.
