Transitions

I am student teaching, and I have noticed that my teacher has gotten her transitions pretty much down for her students. She said it took her a while for them to get there and I can see that. Is there any tips with starting out as a new teacher on transitions?

student imput, the students know themselves the best and if you come up with a good transition with their help they would be more than happy to follow that transition

give students sometime to unpack and sit down once done turn off all lights but the ones needed and get their attention if distraction occurs seperate those students.
