Special Education Services for Disabilities in Reading and Math

Rajiv is a fourth grade student who receives special education services for disabilities in reading and mathematics. He has difficulty in all areas of reading such as decoding words, blends, and frequently used sight words. What accommodations can be utilized to address this student's need?

Solution #1
The Wilson Program is a great accommodation for students with these difficulties. Another would be small group instruction in decoding words, blends, and sight words. An infusion of words and photos matching. Yes, even in fourth grade students may need the basics. Another accommodation would be circle spelling test. Having the student use a blue line marker, which focuses the student on each sentence.
Solution #2
Accommodations for this student should match what he is served under. If he has a Specific Learning Disability related to reading, he could receive accommodations including having tests read to him, reading answer choices, paraphrasing of directions, small group, extended time, and frequent breaks. With these accommodations in place, Rajiv should be able to show what he is able to do in both reading and mathematics.
