I am dealing with a situation in my class where one of my students just sits at his desk all day and does absolutely nothing. It does not matter what I say or do. He just sits there and will not even pick up his pencil. What makes this situation worse is that I know he can do it and I know he is capable of great things! When I tested him at the beginning of the year he scored above average. What are some things I can do to help this situation? I have motivated and been as positive about this as I can. I have even made the parents aware and they keep saying her is like that at home as well.
I agree with this solution. The student may be bored.
It shows the student is most likely bored. Get to know more about your student and ask them what they enjoy doing or a topic that interest them and elaborate on those topics to change things up a little.
